Magic mushrooms are usually eaten but a tea can also be prepared from them

Consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, can lead to permanent changes in the personality of an individual, making him/ her more open about their feelings and the way in which perceives the world around him/ her. This conclusion was made by scientists at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, USA.
The researchers reported that people who had mystical experiences after they received psilocybin (the active ingredient in hallucinogenic mushrooms), became more likely to have drastic personality changes, becoming more open about their feelings, more focused on creativity, curiosity and evaluating art, report from MNT.
The authors suggest that psilocybin may actually have long term effects on humans. So, this “openness” of the world can remain for a long time after taking the substance.
Openness to experience is one of five major personality traits that span all cultures around the world. The other four are neuroticism, extroversion, conscientiousness and agreeableness. The researchers found that the other four personality traits were unimpacted after people ate magic mushrooms.
The study involved 51 people who have gone through two to five 8-hour psilocybin sessions with a three-week interval between each session. During the session the volunteers were lying on a couch, their eyes were covered with a mask and they were listening to music through headphones, while concentrating on internal experiences. Their personalities were screened at the beginning of the study and then in every two months, while the study lasted. Finally there was a final review, which took place 12 months after the experiment ended.
30 of the volunteers had a mystical experience according to the criteria of the scientists collected from a range of psychological factors. Their openness was increased, indicating more focusing on aesthetics, values, inner feelings, imagination and ideas. The rest of the participants, those without mystical experiences, showed no visible personality changes.
