Healthy heart means healthy living so if you want to stay away from medication for longer you should think twice about your lifestyle

Here are some practical tips:
1. For balanced blood sugar eat proteins at every meal even for breakfast.
2. Eat animal proteins as fish, chicken, turkey and plant proteins as soy, tofu, beans and nuts.

3. Combine proteins, fats and carbs in every meal of the day. Never eat only carbs.
4. Avoid eating sugar and white flour.
5. Eat foods rich in fiber, not less than 50 g a day. Beans, whole grain foods, veggies, nuts, seeds and fruits.
6. Avoid all processed foods including soft drinks, juices and diet drinks, which influence blood sugar and lipid metabolism. Liquid calories and sugar is the main culprit for diabetes, obesity and heart diseases.
7. Omega -3 fatty acids are important for heart health. You can find them in salmon, sardines, herring, flax seed and even sea weeds.

8. Reduce saturated fat.
9. Eliminate all hydrogen fats which are found most in margarine and most of processed foods.
10. Instead use olive oil, sesame oil and other nut oils.
11. Avoid or limit consumption of alcohol to avoid increase of triglycerides and fats in the liver which leads to imbalance of blood sugar.
12. Don’t stay hungry. Eat every 4 hours, to maintain normal levels of insulin and blood sugar.
13. Try not to eat at least three hours before going to bed.
14. Eat balanced breakfast rich in proteins every morning. You may start with protein shake or eggs.
15. Include flax seed in your daily menu. This may lower your cholesterol with 18%.
16. Drink green tea to lower your cholesterol.
17. Use soy products as soy milk, soy nuts, tofu to lower your cholesterol with 10%.
18. Eat at between 8 and 10 portions fruits and vegetables. They contain vitamins and minerals, fiber and phytonutrients, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory molecules.
