Men with shaved heads are more dominant, have a strong character and potential to be leaders
Men with shaved heads have a strong character and potential to be leaders. Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania conducted two studies to determine how men with shaved heads are perceived by others.
The first study involved 60 people. The volunteers had to see different pictures of men of the same age, dressed at the same way, but with different lengths of hair.
Men with shaved heads were evaluated by volunteers as a powerful and authoritative.
In the second study, each volunteer had to see a picture of the same person but on the first photo he was with hair and on the other – with a bare head.
The volunteers assessed the man on picture when he was in the ‘bald’ shape as a dominant and respectful person and a few inches taller than his actual height.
Hair is changing the facial features and creates another idea in others, experts comment about the interesting discovery. Thus, whether with or without hair, people create a certain impression in others. Not accidentally hair is an important part of the first impression on new acquaintance.
Experts remind that any impression caused by external signs, is temporary and can refute or confirm only after getting to know the person.
The results of the study are published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
Albert Mannes, the study author and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, was inspired by personal experience to research bold people. Around 10 years ago he become Bruce Willis type too.
“Strangers started treating me differently,” Mannes said. “They were a little more standoffish and, in some cases, deferential, and I was surprised by that.”
