Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should not be overlooked and missed. It is important to charge the body with nutrients and energy throughout the day.
According to nutritionists, balanced diet should include 3 to 5 meals per day, the first of which is mandatory breakfast. It should provide the body about 25% of daily energy intake and over 20% of the daily recommended dose of whole cultures.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that regular breakfast reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
In the study took part men who do not have the habit of eating breakfast. The results show that their risk of developing type 2 diabetes is with 21 per cent higher.
The food we eat for breakfast is as important as the actual morning meal, experts say.
According to another study, consumption of carbohydrates with morning meal reduces the risk of high levels of glucose in the blood.
This does not refer to simple carbohydrates such as refined sugar and starch, which increase the levels of blood sugar. It is about the complex carbs which build foods like whole grains, bread, rice, pasta, fruits, vegetables and legumes.
In addition to the complex carbohydrates, the breakfast should be rich in fats and proteins. This combination is very useful and for the emotional health for the whole day and for a longer period of time.
From a survey, conducted in 2011 shows that 76% of Europeans choose for a morning meal pastry, croissant, cheesecake, sandwiches and others. Only 6% of the respondents eat fruits and 9% choose whole grains for starting the day.
