Guarana is a South American fruit that is used as an additive in many energy drinks because of its tonic properties.
Guarana is known since ancient times. When they were hunting, the men ate the fruit and managed to stay without food and sleep for at least two days. Nowadays, you can find guarana not in the pocket of men but in most energy drinks and even in some of the soft drinks.
Guarana is one of the plants that contains one of the biggest percentages of caffeine – around 6 – 7 %. For comparison, the coffee has only 2 %.
If you are using guarana you will see how energized you will feel. But this is not everything – you can improve your emotional state and sense of exhilaration when there is an absence of adequate sleep. This makes the plant a suitable additive for use if you have to work at night.
Tannin content in the plant helps to slowly release the caffeine from the fruit, thus prolonging its action. Experts explain that the caffeine contained in guarana is handled differently than the caffeine in coffee. Tannins are found in some varieties of wine and add they are “responsible” for the “wood” flavor of the drink.
One of the most favorite “side effects” of guarana is that when it is taken for a long time there has been noticed that it leads to lowering the body fats and reducing the weight. This may be due to the high percentage of caffeine.
Guarana is used as a natural insecticide – protects plants from insects and pests.
The fruit can interact with vitium, sedatives and different kinds of rugs. When you are taking guarana (especially if you are taking it as a pill) it is not recommended the use of other stimulating agents – drugs, supplements or other products that contain caffeine.
